The Remote and restricted area Upper Dolpo Trekking is located far west part of Nepal in Shey Phoksundo National Park at 3,555 square km as Nepal's largest national park. The east is bordered by the Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges to the west by Jumla district. The entire district was closed to trekkers until 1989 when the southern part of Dolpo was opened to organized trekking groups and Shey is still closed to foreigners.
Upper Dolpo is a real adventure trekking on remote and rugged natural unspoiled terrain simply beyond the Himalayan valleys of Nepal. It preserves the last remnants of Tibetan traditional culture where the pre-Buddhist Bon-Po religion is still in practice. This is a real adventure trek since the many isolated high Himalayan valleys across northern Nepal altitude range from 2500m to 5,190m from sea level. The people of this area are simple and warm hearted with enthralling culture and traditions linked with Tibetan. Upper Doplo preserves one of the last remnants of traditional Tibetan culture; legend says it's a one of the "hidden valleys" created by Guru Rinpoche as a refuge for spiritual Buddhists in anxious times. Dolpo lying in the rain shadow area of the Himalayas, the landscape is similar of Tibetan Plateau instead of the lush, green, monsoon watered hills, elsewhere in Nepal. So, people who visit Nepal during monsoon time this trip will be perfect destination. The enthralling nature beauty and unique culture of Dolpo demonstrated by Eric Valli, the author of the famous book Honey Hunter of Nepal movie about Dolpo, "Caravan", was nominated for the Oscar award in the best foreign language film category. The upper Dolpo Region well preserved Eco-System is easiest accessed from Tibet, where its people emigrated from perhaps 1000 years ago. Therefore their language is closely related to Tibetan. The route goes through high passes like Numa La (5,190m) and Baga La (5,070m) and very remote area of the country. We are rewarded when the views opens up dramatically looking east towards the snow peaks of the Kanjiroba and majestic Dhaulagiri range .This is the country where we should make lot of ascend and descend, therefore we recommend this Upper Dolpo Trip only for experience trekkers.
Upper Dolpo Trekking can be organizing only camping (Tented Camp), where you will sleep in tents. Nepal Mother House Treks staff includes a guide, cook, Sherpa and sufficient porters to carry all trekking gear. Even if you have never camped before, there is no need to worry that you won’t enjoy the experience. Upper Dolpo Trekking Itinerary is possible to make shorter and longer as our clients demands and time schedule. Due to lies rain show area this trip can do even during the Monsoon but the best time is September to November and March to May.
