Singu Chuli (6501m) was once known as Fluted Peak among mountains lovers. Singu Chuli is situated in the Annapurna sanctuary, across the valley from Annapurna Base Camp on the northwest ridge below the summit of Tharpu Chuli. Wilf Noyce and David Cox were the first to make the ascent of this attractive and difficult mountain by its northeastern face and the top section of the East Ridge. Even the relative ease of access to the Sanctuary Singu Chuli has demonstrated too difficult for most commercial climbing groups, who have tended to concentrate their efforts on Tharpu Chuli.
The trail begins after from driving to Pokhara (950m) and Phedi or Nayapul to enjoy the breathtaking mountains scenery and the great cultural diversity in the Ghandruk-Chhomorong, Ghorepani. We will follow the classical trekking route for few days until Machapuchere (Fish Tail) Base Camp. It is important to trek only with peak climbing trained guide who hold guidance permit from Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Perhaps the best view of Singu Chuli is from Annapurna South Base Camp as moraines above the lodges the Fluted South Face presents a beautiful shape, buttressed by pencil-shadowy ridges of snow and ice. This can be well seen, rising above the ridge connecting it with Tent Peak. The actual expedition journey begins from the first climbing route and follows a shelf and a trough above the west bank of the West Annapurna Glacier, skirting round the base of the mountain’s rocky east ridge to gain a foot on the northeastern face, which remains unseen even from the moraines above the lodges. From Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we cross the South Annapurna Glaciers and moraines to reach grassy meadows. Then we head to a rock overhang which can be used as camp at an altitude of 4,200m. We climb through the glaciers towards the north and pass through a grassy shelf to reach a ridge where we will set up high camp at 4,900m elevation. From the high camp we continue climbing to Singu Chuli between the glaciers and the flank of the mountain to reach a plateau below the northeastern face. We will fix Camp I on a shelf at 5,600m just below the center of the face. Then we climb towards right hand which leads us just below a vertical wall of about 122m and follow a gorge to the left. The climbing gets steep as we gain an upper section of the East-Ridge and then finally to the summit.
Singu Chuli climbing combines all the best elements of a Himalayan expedition. This trip is strenuous and demands that each participant be well versed in alpine snow climbing skills. Additionally, t is an excellent way to explore the culture of Nepal and ascend two Himalayan peaks in the safest possible way. We at “Nepal Mother House Treks and Expedition” are glad to organize your Singu Chuli Peak Climbing trip with our experienced climbing guides and expert staff.
