Trekking in Upper Mustang or Lo-Manthang Trekking
A kingdom behind the great Himalaya, a state of Nepal has been ruling by King, the place where is no fertile land and the river where is no fish, all this varied features carried by “Mustang. Upper Mustang Trek is a one of the popular destination for worldwide travelers who would like to explore remote antique Tibetan villages with alive museum of people and their culture, rare medieval Buddhist arts, ancient Monastery and more than thousand years of hundreds ruined cave, colorful stratified rock formations and local tribes domain with Tibetan society are the main magnetize features of this region. Upper Mustang Trekking has an average elevation of 4,023m and is located north of behind the gigantic Annapurna Himalaya range adjoining plateau of Tibetan border of the Nepal.
Upper Mustang Trekking route or Upper Mustang Trek is under the rain shadow of the massive Himalayas range, the area receives smell amount rainfall, making the area dry windswept canyons, unique stratified rock pattern, arid-very similar to the next-door Tibetan plateau and with one of the very few places on earth which is not spoilt by trekkers. The trek to Lo-Manthang is through an almost tree-less barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and majestic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and a number of other peaks make your trip unforgettable. Upper Mustang consists of two separate regions: the south region with five villages inhabited by people related to the Managis and the northern region (the ancient kingdom of Lo), where the language, culture and traditions are almost purely Tibetan.
Upper Mustang Trek is start from the Pokhara a beautiful lake town of the western Nepal and crossing the Annapurna conservation area. Either fly to Jomsom or walk from the Beni then through the World deepest gorge and Holy river bank of Kaligandaki will reach at entry point of upper Mustang called Kagbeni and follow the upstream Mustang’s lonely landscape via several passes, the highest of which is the Nyi La (3990m) and through the villages nestle in green oases until we reach the fabulous walled capital of Lo Manthang, home of the Mustang Raja, where there are also beautiful temples and monasteries. On Mustang trek you may have chance to explore the thousand years of old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of the different landscapes. The Home Ministry of Nepal announced the opening of the restricted areas in October 1991. There is also strict control in obtaining a special permit from the department of immigration to protect their tradition from outside influence as well as to protect their environment. In the capital Lo-Manthang an old walled town, undisturbed and untouched civilization life goes on as it has for centuries. Unbelievably, humans have inhabited this apparently alien environment for centuries, creating their settlements along rivers and creeks, with now inaccessible caves high up in the vertical cliffs, which were primitive dwellings 2000 years ago.
Upper Mustang is not much in contact with rest of Nepal, and keeps an atmosphere of a remote, mysterious and remarkable land, which is one of the unique features of the Trekking in Upper Mustang. Perhaps, Upper Mustang is only a place to see Tibetan culture in entirely untouched state. The house and monasteries in Upper Mustang has medieval look and exclusive local architecture built with stone and sun baked mud bricks. About 6,000 inhabitants of the Upper-Mustang cover about 2,600 sq km area of land, which is infertile desert soil in the high elevation. So, people are involved seasonal farming and rest of the time doing business around Nepal or in India. Potatoes, buck wheat and barley are main crops of Mustang.
